I’ve been making savoury oatmeal for a couple of months now. It’s my go-to work breakfast and it’s crazy simple and cheap. All you need are oats (plain, ideally not steel-cut – those take some serious cooking), water, salt, pepper (optional), and whatever toppings your heart desires. My simplest is just avocado + sriracha. I make these fancier ones on weekends.
These are the oats I’m using right now.
1/3 cup oats
1 cup water
Microwave for 45 seconds, stir in salt ‘n peppa. Then microwave an additional 30 seconds. Make sure its not watery…you want it to be pretty thick.
I then topped it off with fried mushrooms, carrots, sprouts, avocado and a fried egg. Then add Sriracha to that and you’ve got magic!
Trust me, the oatmeal is underneath. It helps if you’re watching your sugar intake, trying to be healthier or just wanting something different for breakfast.
